The AI-Ready Website Checklist
Everything it takes for AI engines to find, understand, and recommend your business — as a checklist you can actually work through. Each item says what to do and how to do it. No email required, no catch.
When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for "the best {what you do} near me," the businesses in that answer aren't necessarily the best ones — they're the most legible ones. This checklist is how you become legible. It's the same set of checks my paid rebuilds cover and the same ones the free audit tests automatically.
Work top to bottom. Check things off as you go — your progress saves in this browser. Budget 30–45 hours total for a typical small business site, with Claude or ChatGPT doing most of the keystrokes.

3. Schema markup — the machine-readable layer

Common Questions
What does "AI-Ready" mean for a website?
A website is AI-Ready when AI engines like Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews can read it, understand it, and recommend it in their answers. That takes three things working together: content shaped to answer real questions, schema markup so machines know what you are, and a consistent presence across the profiles AI engines cross-reference.
How long does it take to make a website AI-Ready yourself?
Plan on roughly 30–45 hours of real work for the initial pass — content is the biggest share — then an hour or two a month to keep it fresh. AI assistants like Claude do most of the keystrokes, but directing and editing is real work.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Almost everything on the checklist happens in your platform’s settings or with copy-paste code an AI assistant generates for you. The exception: some platforms (GoDaddy builders, entry-level Squarespace plans) don’t allow custom code at all, which is when a rebuild conversation starts making sense.
How do I know if it’s working?
Ask the AI engines the question your best customer would ask — "best [what you do] in [your city]" — and see if you appear. The free AI Visibility Audit on this site automates that: it fetches your live site, runs the checks on this list, and runs a real Perplexity query for your market.
